Evaluation of the performance and cost-effectiveness of engineered cementitious composites (ECC) produced from region 6 local materials
The objective of this project is to produce cost-effective Engineered Cementitious Composite (ECC) materials with local available materials from Region 6. ECC materials have the potential to be successfully implemented as a more reliable repair alternative as well as for new construction, providing structures with an enhanced service life as compared to structures repaired and built under current practices. Furthermore, the development of ECC with local materials will serve as a base for further development in the subject. To fulfill this purpose, several ECC mix designs will be produced with different proportions of locally available materials. The ECC’s fresh and hardened material properties will be evaluated by measuring slump flow, tensile strength, flexural strength, compressive strength, strain hardening performance, and steady-state crack width. The properties will be evaluated to identify the key parameters to optimize the ECC strain hardening response and balance the fresh and hardened material properties. Finally, a feasibility study for ECC implementation will be performed by comparing the life-cycle cost of ECC materials as compared to current materials utilized in the field.
