Evaluation of On-Site Oral Fluid Drug Screening Technology

With the significant increase in drug use, legal and otherwise, in the United States, recent studies by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) have found significant increases in drivers testing positive for marijuana. On-site or field testing for many of the drugs in question is either not available yet or not scientifically tested. The objective of this project is to ensure on-site drug screening devices, in a laboratory setting, are accurate and reliable, precise and sensitive to drug(s) specified by the manufacturer. Five currently available oral fluid drug screening devices were selected for testing. This testing will provide impartial data to NHTSA regarding the forensic reliability of on-site drug screening devices in a laboratory setting.
