Designing a Transit-Feeder System Using Bikesharing and Peer-to-Peer Ridesharing
This proposal is on the second phase of the previously funded University of California Center for Economic Competitiveness in Transportation (UCConnect) project entitled “Promoting Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Ridesharing Services as Transit System Feeders”. For the second phase of the project, we propose expanding the transportation alternatives available for the Los Angeles (LA) Metro red line last-mile challenge by including bikesharing in the transit-feeder system. In light of the Los Angeles County’s plans to launch bikesharing programs in downtown Los Angeles and Pasadena in the near future, this proposal investigates the potential contribution bikesharing can have on public transport ridership. In addition, we propose to develop a mobile application that uses a combination of Metro red and gold lines, P2P ridesharing, and bikesharing to provide multi-modal itineraries to users.
