Fiber-Reinforced Concrete Traffic Railings for Impact Loading

The primary objectives of this study are: (1) develop a fiber-reinforced concrete (FRC) mix that will be viable for use in slip form construction of bridge rails, and (2) to evaluate, using experimental pendulum impact testing and complementary numerical simulation, where the proposed FRC rail possesses impact resistance equivalent to (or greater than) that of a traditional rebar-reinforced concrete bridge rail.
