ANALYZING DRIVER BEHAVIOR IN PASSING ZONES WITH DIFFERENTIAL SPEED LIMITS ON TWO-LANE TWO-WAY UNDIVIDED HIGHWAYS IN ALASKA

Analyzing Driver Behavior in Passing Zones with Differential Speed Limits on Two-Lane Two-Way Undivided Highways in Alaska. Project studies implementation of new passing lane signing strategy recommended in previous passing simulation research. Researchers will compare existing traffic data to post-construction traffic data on Seward Highway MP 59-66. This study will conduct a before/after study to examine the effects of differential speed limits on traffic flow characteristics, along with drivers’ perception of this change. Recommendations and a final report could help define optimal characteristics for passing lane efficiency.
