Development of Geosynthetic Design and Construction Guidelines for Pavement Embankment Construction in North Georgia

The primary objectives of this study are: (1) to properly identify and evaluate potential applications of geosynthetics in solving the problem of migration of fines; (2) to evaluate possible reduction in aggregate base layer thickness when geosynthetics are utilized on Georgia’s soft soils; and, (3) to assist roadway engineers in determining ideal locations and types of geosynthetics by providing a design and construction guide suitable for Georgia’s soil conditions, which results in extended service life of pavement and cost savings in the long run.
