A Rational Method of Surface Treatment Selection for Concrete Decks – Thin Polymer Overlays

The proposed project would provide a method and operational level guidance to the selection and installation timing for thin polymer overlays in extending the time to repair for bridge decks in Minnesota. This would be accomplished by analyzing the diffusion rates of chlorides in concrete bridge decks before and after the application of thin polymer overlays, and using that information to determine the optimal time in a deck's service life to apply a thin polymer overlay.
