Evaluating Performance of Highway Safety Projects

This project will develop methods and tools that Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) staff can use to objectively evaluate the performance of highways’ safety projects that have been implemented in Idaho. A methodology to evaluate the safety performance of all Local Highway Safety Improvement Program (LHSIP) and Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) projects will be developed. The methodology will include those on the state and local system while retaining separate pools for LHSIP and HSIP projects. The project will Identify the most effective types of safety projects on state and local roads. This information will help ITD and Local Highway Technical Assistance Council (LHTAC) make better decisions about future safety project selections and development. How to automate the process in a format that meets the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century (MAP-21)/HSIP annual reporting requirements will be investigated.
