Recommendations for a Risk-Based Approach to Quality Assurance of Reinforcing Steel

This project will evaluate current Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) practices for assuring quality of reinforcing steel to validate them where appropriate and recommend improvements where they are justified. ITD currently practices extensive sampling and testing to assure quality in reinforcing steel for bridges. This practice will be evaluated. ITD’s practices will be compared and contrasted to other departments of transportation (DOTs). Where applicable modifications will be suggested tor existing practices. When warranted in light of industry practices and evaluation of acceptable risk, current Quality Assurance (QA) practices will be modified.
