Reinforced Concrete Foundation Remote Monitoring

The overall project objective is to develop a viable solution to wirelessly monitor the health of a reinforced concrete foundation over its entire lifespan. To achieve this objective the appropriate civil engineering sensor technologies, associated with monitoring the health of a reinforced concrete foundation, must be selected. This will involve an interdisciplinary effort to review current civil engineering sensor technologies while assessing their suitability for a low power, and energy harvesting technologies must also be reviewed to select the mot appropriate solutions to work in concert with the civil engineering sensor technologies. Once the best candidate technologies have been selected a prototype system will be developed in a University of North Florida laboratory and bench tested to permit optimization of the overall system design. Once optimized, a field test will be conducted using a reinforced concrete test foundation to validate the system.
