Development of a Load Distribution Program for Design and Load Rating of Buried Culverts and Pipes
The objective of this research is to develop a load distribution program which can compute equivalent loading areas on fill above the buried structures considering the effect of pavements (rigid pavement, flexible pavement, or unpaved road). This program will consider different types, thicknesses, and materials for pavement layers, types and dimensions of culverts and pipes, and loading configurations, positions, and magnitudes. The computed equivalent loading areas can be input into the current American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) design software available to Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) for design and load rating of buried culverts and pipes.
