Cost and Time Benefits for Using Subsurface Utility Engineering in Louisiana
The objectives of this research are to establish a record of all major projects that the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD) has used Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) services on in the past to determine how much was spent on SUE services versus the amount of money saved; should include interviews with project managers, the LADOTD utility section, the utility companies, and contractors; and the record should include the original amounts for time and cost estimated before SUE services versus after SUE services along with confirmation form all parties discussing the potential hazards that would have presented themselves if SUE was not used; compare the return on investment of applying SUE in Louisiana to the return investment obtained in the Purdue study ($4.62 for every dollar spent on SUE); and identify the types of projects where the net benefits are the greatest and the type of services that provide the greatest savings in time and cost.
