Development of Statewide Guidelines for Implementing Leading Pedestrian Intervals in Florida

The overall objective of this project is to conduct an integrated study to determine the suitability and effectiveness of Leading Pedestrian Interval (LPI) implementation at signalized intersections to improve pedestrian safety and to develop statewide guidelines for LPI implementation. Specifically, the primary objectives of this study are to: (1) obtain knowledge, experience, and guidance for LPI implementation from a literature review, traffic agency interviews, recommendations from field experts, and consultation with Florida Department of Transportation District operations staff; and (2) develop simple and robust statewide guidelines for LPI warrants, implementation, and operations in Florida.
