Safety Forecast Modeling

The purpose of this project is to assess the forecasting ability of Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) safety models and recommend safety metrics for the planning process. The UDOT Traffic and Safety Division has developed safety curves for several different functional classification and volume scenarios to identify outlier crash locations where mitigation measures should be focused. This project will assess the forecasting ability of the safety models for use in the regional and statewide travel models and provide a proof of concept for for using the safety curves as a prioritization metric in UDOT’s planning and programming of future projects. The project will provide a visualization component compatible with UDOT's uPlan tool. The project will recommend an update to the current Safety Index, if applicable.
