Estimation and Prediction of Statewide Annual VMT by Vehicle Class and Highway Category
The proposed study will develop a framework for consistent estimation of statewide aggregate VMT for use in various INDOT business processes including highway financial analysis, asset management, and transportation planning. This will include an investigation of the efficacy of the alternative methods under the major categories of VMT estimation and an identification of a desirable option that can best reconcile the different requirements of various units within the agency. The research product will facilitate reliable aggregate VMT estimation and ensure consistency of VMT figures generated from different units within INDOT.
