Crash Data Analysis

This project will support further research into the area of motor vehicle safety, particularly truck driver safety, which is of a critical importance across the nation. This data-driven project will expand from the initial Missouri Crash Database to include similar vehicle crash data from the surrounding states of Iowa, Illinois, and Kansas. This project will provide information that may be used to strengthen driving regulations for both personal and commercial vehicles, improve highway safety education, and improve vehicle design. Additionally, the project will serve to validate the effectiveness and importance of large datasets and contemporary data analysis techniques (e.g., decision trees) in crash severity analysis. The project supports improvements in highway safety and in reducing crash injury severity.
