Validation and Revision of Fees Charged for Oversize/Overweight Vehicle Permits

The proposed research is to review Illinois's current oversize/overweight (OS/OW) permit fee structure and propose revisions that might be necessary to achieve a balance between encouraging commerce and protecting highway infrastructure and operational safety. Specifically, an accurate and quantified cost of infrastructure damage and safety caused by OS/OW vehicles should serve as a basis for establishing an efficient and equitable permit system.
