Create a Performance Index/Condition Assessment Measure
The geometric component of project improvements is only approximately captured in the current Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) asset management practice. A geometry sufficiency index is proposed to evaluate the geometric adequacy of the road cross-section based on documented safety and speed effects to provide a measure to describe benefit for large project costs. A second use of the index is for statewide analysis of needs and financial impacts by collecting or gathering information on the entire network and to evaluate current deficiencies or look for the most cost effective projects across the state uniformly.
