State of the Plug-In Electric Vehicle Market
Alternative and renewable fueled vehicle stakeholders, including governments, the auto industry, fuel suppliers, and consumers, face an uphill challenge in developing a sustainable market. A serious handicap for most stakeholders is the lack of up-to-date data and analysis of consumers' knowledge, beliefs, experience, and valuation of successive generations of alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs) and infrastructure design. This project will implement a recurring market survey to inform current and future efforts of California state agencies and AFV/PEV (plug-in electric vehicles) stakeholders on the most effective ways to expand the market for alternative and renewable fuels and vehicles in California and the US. The goal of this project is to develop, on a recurring basis, deep market intelligence about US (and California) car buyers for the AFV/PEV stakeholder community, automakers, utility sector and local, regional, state, and federal agencies., The project will disseminate this intelligence to stakeholders through workshops and "state of the AFV/PEV market" reports that will help them in meeting California AFV/PEV goals, steering a course that results in the greatest market growth and therefore the greatest reductions in CO₂ possible, and producing a sustainable market. The market analysis will measure the effect of policies such as incentives to buyers and drivers like rebates, high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane access, tax incentives. Such analysis can optimize Federal and California public investments to increase cost effectiveness of those investments and accelerate the market.
