SPR-3913: The Assessment of Legal and Proposed New Permit Loads on Bridge Rating and Posting Policies to Comply with the Latest AASHTO and MBE Guidelines
The proposed research work will address two needs. First, it will review legal loads in Indiana to determine if they encompass the truck loads that are commonly allowed to use the state and local bridge system. These loads must satisfy the requirements prescribed by AASHTO in the MBE and, if not, then to develop state recommended legal loads that would satisfy the AASHTO requirements. Second, it will also examine the influence of permit loads on load rating of Indiana bridges, including both the Michigan train loadings as well as the newly proposed 120,000-lb permit truck.
