Research for AASHTO Standing Committee on Highways. Task 341. Guidelines for Development HSM Part C Predictive Method Chapters

The objective of this research is to develop guidelines that constitute a protocol for the development of predictive method chapters for Part C of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Highway Safety Manual. An initial teleconference with the panel was held to develop the work statement. There are two specific National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) projects currently underway where research is in progress that will compliment this 20-07 study, NCHRP 17-58, "Safety Prediction Models for Urban and Suburban Arterials" and NCHRP 17-62, "Improved Prediction Models for Crash Types and Crash Severities" respectively. Prospective consultants have also been identified with qualifications based selection having expert experience in the Highway Safety Manual (HSM) and predictive methods. The intent is to have the research activities under NCHRP 17-58 and 17-62 at a more mature level so those preliminary results can reasonably feed in to the 20-07 study initiative.
