Assessment of Deteriorated Structural Concrete to Provide Durable Repairs

The objectives of this study are to: (1) review current practices used by consultants and in-house staff to assess structural concrete; (2) examine current state-of-the-practice procedures used by corrosion consultants to evaluate structural concrete for chloride contamination, rebar corrosion, concrete chemical assessment and deterioration; (3) document best practices for the Kentucky Transportation cabinet (KYTC) staff and consultants for the use of advanced evaluation methods for structural concrete scoping of work, analysis of test results and proper reporting of findings to facilitate preventative maintenance or repairs; and (4) document best practices for KYTC staff and consultants for surface preparation and repair.
