A Pilot Study for Preventing Incorrect Turns at High-Rail Grade Crossings

This pilot study focuses on the following objectives: (1) deployment of the selected countermeasures at the selected pilot study sites; (2) collect all before and after-deployment field speed data at the pilot study sites to determine driver hesitation rates.; (3) collect all before and after-deployment field street lighting illumination level data at the pilot study sites to support the evaluation on the implemented countermeasures; (4) perform before and after data analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of the implemented countermeasures to prevent incorrect turns on vehicles onto railroad tracks; and (5) produce quantitative data that estimates the potential benefits of safety improvements at highway-rail grade crossings.
