Damage to ITS, Traffic Control and Roadway Lighting Equipment from Transient Surge and Lightning Strikes

The primary objective of this research is to identify and characterize actual field conditions and failure rates for current and past intelligent transportation system (ITS), traffic control and roadway lighting installations. The goal of these investigations is to reveal the state of the practice and make recommendations for lightning/surge protection, grounding, etc. that will allow the Department to realize the benefits.
