SPR-3820: Probability of Detection (POD) Study for Bridge Inspection Related to Steel Bridges (Phase 1)
The probability of bridge inspectors to detect and quantify various defects and forms of damage, such as weld toe cracks, surface corrosion, and internal weld flaws, will be evaluated in this study. The influence of environmental conditions on detectability will also be studied, such as the influence of conducting inspection during nighttime, cold weather, etc. The outcomes will be used to develop procedures to improve inspection reliability, develop inspector performance-based certification criteria and procedures, and develop pin inspection and testing procedures.
