Alternatives to Raised Pavement Markers (RPM's)
It is desirable to identify techniques that can be used to either eliminate or significantly reduce the use of raised pavement markers (RPMs), and still provide a similar (or better) safety performance at the same or lower life cycle cost. This project proposes to develop a pilot site deployment collaboration between the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) and Purdue to evaluate and compare RPM painted rumble strips. The assessment will consider retroreflectivity, technical performance, safety benefit and economic life-cycle.
