Employing Asset Management to Control Costs and Sustain Highway Levels of Service
This research project establishes a set of criteria associated with performance values for four different highway asset types in Indiana: pavement condition, bridge condition, added capacity (mobility), and safety. System performance curves can be built from data on Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) assets that show the level of system performance that could be expected for any budget level in any given year. This project will provide a tool for improved allocation of resources within a system and among different subsystems from both engineering and financial perspectives. The tool can be used at the statewide network level, at the district level, or at a highway system level.
