Concrete Pipe - Electrochemical Cell, Phase II

The objective of this project is to better understand how corrosion initiation and propagation of the reinforcing steel in D-RCPs affects its estimated service life. As part of the methodology, electrochemical cells have been implemented from D-RCPs segments to better understand what takes place in the field under various relevant conditions. The tests will be performed on single layer reinforced culvert. Corrosion initiated on all prepared samples within Phase I of the project. Corrosion rates during the propagation stages will be obtained from the laboratory specimens exposed indoors and outdoors. Forensic examination of both laboratory and field segments will assist in understanding location of corrosion products, as well as the type of corrosion.
