Testing, Evaluation, and Specification for Polymeric Materials used for Transportation Infrastructures

The objectives of this project are to: (1) identify the deterioration mechanisms and techniques to predict service life of composites; (2) assess UV resistance of polymeric materials; (3) use the data as reference to predict the service life of the polymeric products; (4) identify appropriate tests of monitoring sunlight degradation; (5) correlate polymer degradation in the weatherometer to outdoor exposure, and (6) prepare a detailed testing protocol outlining 75-year service life qualification and quality assurance measures.
