CDOT Pavement Crack Seal and Fill Best Management Practices

Crack sealing and filling are cost-effective pavement preservation techniques that can improve pavement performance, increase remaining service life, and provide potential contracting opportunities for disadvantaged business enterprises. However, the Colorado Department of Transportation's (CDOT's) crack sealing policy manual hasn't been updated since it was developed in 1994 and is not applicable to the current state of the practice. This research will recommend a policy for application and use of crack sealing and filling; develop best practices, design guidelines, and specifications; and identify appropriate quality control/quality assurance (QC/QA) procedures.
