Northern Lights Express Project
This project is provided to conduct the required planning effort or study to determine the requirements for rehabilitation of the rail line from Minneapolis to Duluth, and provide data and summary reports when required. The scope of work covers an engineering study of necessary improvements to the rail line from Minneapolis to Duluth to enable it to handle higher speed rail passenger service. The study will address the following issues: Track Improvements: Existing 155 mile BNSF Railroad from Minneapolis to Duluth via Hinckley Subdivision will be improved from Class III & IV to Class V & VI. Track upgrades include: Switches Short span bridges; Ties Ballast; Culverts Crossings; Rail; Grading Curves/Cants.
