National Research Program
This project is designed to identify the scope of the problem of suicides that occur on commuter and subway transportation systems' rights of way in the United States. The project aims to quantify the number of suicide deaths on the commuter rail and subway systems, to develop a plan for conducting a Causal Analysis of the psychological and physical characteristics of railway-related suicides; to conduct preliminary Causal Analysis research; and to lay the groundwork for a longer-term, more in-depth project that will include development and pilot testing of proposed prevention measures.
