Mechanistic-Empirical Design, Implementation & Monitoring for Rigid Pavements

This research project will propose refinements to continuously reinforced concrete pavement (CRCP) design framework and assist the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) in implementing it into the Bureau of Design and Environment (BDE) Manual. The BLRS rigid pavement design procedure will be reviewed and updated to reflect changes made to the jointed plain concrete pavement (JPCP) method in the BDE manual. As needed, the principal investigator will provide IDOT with short term technical services related to rigid pavement. Additional tasks may be initiated in the future related to CRCP terminal joint design and performance, design of composite pavement, and performance survey of constructed ultra-thin whitetopping (UTW) overlays especially the effects of fiber reinforced.
