Pedestrian/Bicyclist Warning Devices & Signs at Hwy.-Rail & Pathway-Rail Grade Crossings

This research project will: (1) review the literature regarding planning, implementation, and evaluation of warning devices for non-motorized users at rail grade crossings; (2) conduct telephone interviews with staff at state agencies to obtain pertinent information about policies, costs and implementation experiences; (3) survey non-motorized users at problematic and less so rail grade crossings and analyze video of user behavior at such crossings; and (4) conduct statistical analysis of survey data. The previous deliverables along with overall conclusions and recommendations will be documented in a final report.
