Develop Travel Reliability Inventory for Highway Networks

This research project will develop necessary procedures and computer tools to document the random travel time patterns of highway networks. For the purpose of demonstration, a prototype travel reliability inventory will be created for the Chicago Metropolitan Area. The primary reason to focus on this area is data availability: Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has continuously funded the Gary-Chicago-Milwaukee (GCM) Traveler Information System, which has over the years accumulated a huge amount of traffic data that cover major roads in the Chicago area.
