Evaluation of Flashing Yellow Arrows (FYA) for Protected/Permissive Left Turn (PPLT) Control

This research seeks to quantify the safety and operational benefits from upgrading the left turn signal control for the permissive state from solid circular green indication to a flashing yellow arrow indication at intersections in the Peoria area. The safety and operational benefits will be assessed using a before-and-after study of traffic crashes, injuries, and traffic conflicts. Differences in the safety and operational measures will be tested for significance using appropriate inferential statistics. As a part of this research a literature review and a driver comprehension survey will also be conducted. The results and findings will be documented in a final report.
