Formability of New High Performance Grade 50 Structural Steel

The A710 and A606 steel will be tested for strength and fracture toughness (Charpy V-notch) to assure that the steels have the required properties for the proposed application. Metallographic studies will be performed to investigate the microstructure in the as-received condition. Then the steels in thicknesses from 1/8 to 3/8-inch will be bend tested for ductility to evaluate their resistance to cracking or other surface irregularities during a continuous bend. The specimens after bend tests will be carefully analyzed, and the data will be related to the mechanical properties and microstructure of steels. The results will be reported to ICT.
