Testing of Portland Cement (Current ASTM C150) with Limestone & Process Addition (ASTM C465)

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is concerned with the field performance of these new mix designs when the sum of inorganic additions, plus limestone addition exceeds 5.0%. Adequate strength and good early strength gain are also a concern if the sum is above 5.0%. Since there is no experimental test data is available for concrete with ILDOT mix designs made using cements above 5.0% limestone plus processing addition, an experimental investigation is required to assess the strength gain, ultimate strength, and durability characteristics of concrete mixes that contain portland cements with limestone and process additions greater than 5% in combination with Supplementary Cementitious Materials (SCMs).
