Experimental Investigation of the Effect of Surface Markings on the Mechanical Integrity of Weathering Bridge Steels

The purpose of this project is to study the effect of three different marking techniques on 50W and 70W weathering bridge steels. The targeted etching techniques of interest are milling, plasma torch and laser. The scope of work will be narrowed down to block letters and numerals, which will be simulated by simple lines. Fundamental understanding of the effect of marking technique on the alteration of the underlying microstructure and notch sensitivity will be gained.
