Utah Winter Severity Index
This project will create an index which will be used to define the severity of winter weather, thereby reducing a multivariate system into a single value and allowing comparison between storms or seasons. The index will incorporate intensity, duration and other variables determined to contribute to the subjective "severity" of winter storms. Utilizing a single value to define a storm or season will allow for objective comparison of efforts to manage transportation during winter weather, whether in operations or maintenance, and from one maintenance station to another. Seasonal severity indices can be used to compare seasonal effective use of resources.
