Frost Video Update and Enhancement
Northern tier States and Provinces are influenced by frost heave and have worked to develop ways to minimize its effect on the transportation infrastructure through proper design. Even with the tools we have today we still experience frost heave issues and have to work to repair problems once they show up in frost boils or differential heave. The original video was done by CRREL (Cold Regions Research Engineering Lab) in the early 1980s. It contains some interesting laboratory time-lapes videos of how frost action takes place and the narration is still relevant today. This video needs to be updated to current video standards while also adding a section showing repair methods for problem areas. The classic lab video and the narration (story line) will be incorporated into the updated video. The purpose of the new video is to: (1) Show how we design for preventing frost heaves; (2) Show examples of frost heaves; (3) Show/Demonstrate how frost action takes place; (4) Explain what fixes are available.
