Lean Construction in Caltrans, Training
Completing a construction project on time and within budget is of the highest priority to Caltrans. These issues are being addressed through an enhanced partnering contract during the phases of a construction using the Antler's Bridge Replacement at District 2 as pilot project for Lean Construction. Lean Construction is a production management-based approach to project delivery - a new way to design and build capital facilities with the goal of better meeting customer needs while using less of everything. But unlike current practice, lean construction rests on production management principles. The lean concept is implemented through improved communication involving partners (both Caltrans and contractor) and stakholders as well. The team will be using the Last Planner system components such as phase scheduling, look-ahead planning, weekly work planning as well as lessons learned from failures.
