SEISMIC: UW: Rapid Construction of Bridge Piers with Improved Seismic Performance

Construction projects inevitably disrupt traffic. When construction proceeds slowly, costs increases due to interruption of commerce and workers experience greater risk of injury. To mitigate these concerns for bridge design and construction this contract proposes to study the use of concrete-filled steel tube (CFT) bridge piers. The advantages of CFT bridge piers are hard to ignore if adopted: very rapid construction and the concrete inside the tube are protected from the environment.
