High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) Lane Management System

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) issued conditional approval for use of High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) facilities for hybrid vehicles and requires a monitoring and reporting program that includes a plan for action to be taken when the HOV lanes are degraded. This plan needs to address the procedures to manage Single Occupant Hybrid Vehicle (SHOV) access to HOV facilities when degradation occurs. This research task aims to address the aforementioned issues and shed light on effects of allowing SOHV into HOV lanes. Researchers will also attempt to propose a solution to manage degraded HOV facilities.
