Geospatial Intermodal Freight Transport (GIFT) Model
The Geospatial Intermodal Freight Transport (GIFT) model will allow multimodal freight routing comparisons for parameters such as energy and emissions, time, and cost. MARAD leads the completion of the Freight Routing Energy and Emissions Analysis Tool (FREAT) in 2007. FREAT is an Excel-based model that defines optimal freight routing scenarios between two points based on energy and emissions, time, and cost. To improve upon functionality, a geospatial model should be developed. GIFT will improve upon FREAT's capability.
