Synthesis of Information Related to Transit Problems. Topic SA-38. Use of Electronic On-Street Signage in Transit
Providing accurate, useful, and timely information to transit customers has always been a challenging task. Transit information is complex and vast. Often just a small fraction of transit information is relevant to any one rider. Transit information is also dynamic, changing in real time due to a number of different variables. Now with advances in technology, there are new opportunities to provide this information to transit riders to improve their experiences. Many transit providers are currently using electronic signage to convey service information. Others are considering doing the same. A synthesis is needed to document the state of the practice on the use of electronic passenger information signage by selected transit providers. It will focus on their experiences to provide both real-time and other information.
