Synthesis of Information Related to Transit Problems. Topic SB-23. Integrating Passenger Ferry Service with Mass Transit

Passenger ferry services are operated by public agencies, private operators, and public- private partnerships throughout the country. However, ferry services seem to be nearly invisible in the transportation industry. The question is asked whether ferries could be integrated better in the public transit matrix to improve mass transit service options and ridership. A synthesis is needed to look at various transit agencies and modes that interface with ferry services and report how well integration has been accomplished.  The objective of this study is to document the practice of developing, improving, or operating passenger ferry services so that they are seamlessly integrated into public transit systems.
