Synthesis of Information Related to Transit Problems. Topic SB-13. Transit Agency Participation in Medicaid Transportation Programs

Opportunities exist for public transit service agencies in both urban and rural areas to participate either as providers or brokers in Medicaid transportation systems. However, many transit agencies and Medicaid agencies do not coordinate in the provision of Medicaid transportation because of real or perceived barriers. This study will report on those real and perceived barriers and develop case studies of Medicaid transportation program participation by transit agencies. It will provide examples of decision-making and operational frameworks for creating a contractual relationship between the Medicaid program and the public transit agency as either a direct provider or sub-contractor.
