Research for AASHTO Standing Committee on Highways. Task 221. Traffic Incident Management Program for Worker Safety
The objective of this research is to summarize existing research findings and approaches related to traffic incident management (TIM) safety and to establish a set of recommendations for national action to enhance the safety of TIM workers--in essence providing the foundation for a national TIM+ Program. The research product should emphasize worker and public safety as well as proven TIM practices, and may be based on findings from the European scan and resources from the National Traffic Incident Management Coalition (NTIMC) and affiliated organizations. The resulting product will serve as a basis for national action as well as a tool for establishing coordinated TIM programs on local, state, and regional (e.g. corridor-based) bases. A workshop was held in May 2009 to review draft material. The draft report is currently under review by the project panel and the revised report is expected in June 2010.
