Synthesis of Information Related to Airport Problems. Topic S02-02. Sustainable Facilities and Practices

<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt 0.25in; LINE-HEIGHT: 12pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none"><span style="LETTER-SPACING: -0.1pt"><o:p><font face="Times New Roman" size="3"></font></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none"><font size="3"><font face="Times New Roman">Aviation sustainability is a global issue that is addressed in part by airports on local and regional levels.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">  </span>Airport Sustainability as defined by the "triple bottom line" is evolving at airports.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">  </span>Many airports are developing and implementing practices that meet some aspects of sustainability under the triple bottom line categories of economic, environmental and social equity practices. However, there is no common framework that lists the components comprising the triple bottom line or that reports how airports might be achieving these components.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">  </span>In addition, there is no framework to compile the components that airports might be developing or considering to achieve the "triple bottom line."  </font></font><font size="3"><font face="Times New Roman">To facilitate rapid adoption of sustainable practices at airports, a comprehensive list of key components comprising the triple bottom line is needed. This list must go beyond LEED certification and <st1:place w:st="on">EMS</st1:place>, and include how airports are monitoring, measuring and reporting.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">  </span>The list must identify "triple bottom line" components airports are considering, planning, or have undertaken. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>Barriers to implementation must also be identified.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">  </span></font></font></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none"><o:p><font face="Times New Roman" size="3"> </font></o:p></p>
